The first 100 days of President Obama's time in office has flown by. While the Obama Administration has been hard at work on important issues ... so has the League!
Health Care Reform
Did you know? The League of Women Voters supports universal health care. The League's Lobby Corps has been visiting Congressional offices urging members to pass legislation with a benefits package that includes the prevention of disease, health promotion and education, primary care, acute care, long-term care, and mental health care.
Openness in Government
Did you know? Since its founding, League members have been on the frontlines to promote government transparency at the local, state, and national levels. The League's experience and opinions have been heard on this subject. The League's executive director attended a meeting last month at the White House to provide input on how to increase openness in government and enhance civic engagement.
Global Climate Change
Did you know? As part of the League's ongoing efforts to halt climate change, we have partnered with Oxfam-America to educate communities across the country on the importance of international adaptation efforts for successfully challenging climate change and protecting threatened communities, especially the poor. The League has also produced many essential documents passed on to Congress urging quick and strong action on global climate change.
The League will continue to work on these pressing issues but citizen involvement is key to keeping our democracy strong. We want to know how you have become a more involved citizen in the past 100 days. Take our poll and tell us what you've been up to and check out our website to see how you can stay involved.
Sincerely,
